How do you create a life and business that are rich in the things most important to you?
First of all you need to clearly define what would make up your rich lifestyle and ask yourself a series of questions.
Are you a morning person? A night owl? Are you laid back and relaxed or very rigid and structured? Are you organized by nature or do you have to force yourself to keep a neat work area? Do you need absolute quiet to work or do you prefer background noise or music…do both of these depend on the type of work you are doing?
Are you the creative type? While everyone likes to think they are creative, this is just not so. Creatives tend to be quieter, more contemplative and introverted. You are an extrovert? While you may still be creative, your creativity would express itself in a different way, such as making speeches, organizing large events. Those with different personality traits tend toward different ways of working and the noisier extrovert types may not do so well working on their own for long periods of time without input from others.
The work at home lifestyle is slightly different for each person. Make a list of the things that are most important to you in your daily life, those things that you want to surround yourself with as much as possible. Think friends, family, hobbies, recreation. How will you organize these all into one area and still leave boundaries in place to firmly separate each? This will be the only way you can concentrate on work and also give yourself the leisure time needed to rejuvenate. Flexibility will be key and this pertains to your personality as well as your physical area.
Plan your business.
By this I don’t mean a business plan but organize your space, your hours and your life so your business doesn’t take over, otherwise there will be no match, there will only be a working lifestyle that leaves no room for the other important things. Make deliberate plans that work with and around your favorite activities. Take into consideration how this will affect your income. For those with families, you may not be able to plan for everything. For singles and retirees, the options can be endless.
Matching your business to your lifestyle can be one of the most important things you do before starting a business or, if you work for someone else, working virtually. Many of those starting out purposely keep their businesses small in order to accommodate the things they want to do with their time.
For many of us, the most important thing is to keep it simple.
