In last week’s post, I shared my back-story that has led me to where I am today and challenged you to start pondering yours.

The advent of social media has changed the world of marketing forever. Marketing strategies from a decade ago will no longer suffice on their own.

These days, customers are more educated than ever and will do their research.

It goes without saying that all businesses need a stellar web site, as that will be the first stop for prospects, but that isn’t enough… Customers and clients now want to go beyond to make a personal connection before purchasing.

The world of social media may seem daunting with a new tool or program coming out every other week, but it doesn’t need to be. Each system has its own benefits and limitations, which is helpful in determining what will work best for you.

There is a wealth of free information available online if you need to find out more about which social media tool is best for your business.

For today’s post, I’ll be focusing on the message over the method…

You started your business for a reason – with a dream and a goal. It’s much more important to understand your business’ benefits and value than being an expert in every social media tool.

People buy from trusted sources. To instill trust in your audience begins with providing value to prove your business does all that you claim.

Social media provides you with a number of ways to speak to your tribe. It’s up to you to decide what method is best for you. The key is that you put a face on your business and help your prospective clients to understand why you do what you do.

It’s a form of education that shares your company’s mission and vision to anyone in the world.

To use any form of social media effectively, you need to understand your target market and your business’ purpose. A good place to start is outlining ‘your story’ and what led you to create your business. Then take a look at your calendar for any upcoming promotions or holidays. From there, you can easily create a social media calendar and schedule your posts in advance. You will also have to remain active. Social media is all about being social and your fans and followers want to feel engaged.

Share your successes, but also share the lessons you’ve learned along the way. Your prospective clients will appreciate it.

The bottom line is social media is all about creating conversations. It’s an organic and honest way to nurture your leads.

So, what systems are the most optimal for your company? Do your research to find out where your target market is hanging out online.

If you’re unsure where to start, we can help!

The key take away from this week’s post is to understand your story and your ideal clients so you can speak to them effectively.

Next week we’ll dive into the blogosphere and content creation world to help you develop valuable materials to share with your prospective clients.

I leave you with this scene from Jerry Maguire to inspire you to inspire your tribe. Believe in yourself and your business vision and the right people will too. ‘Who’s coming with me?’
